Cyberjaya has been named as one of Japan's 2011 FutureCities and is invited by the Japanese government for the international forum on the ‘FutureCity Initiative' to be held on 21 February.

Cyberjaya was selected along with Malmo (Sweden), Copenhagen (Denmark), and Surabaya (Indonesia). The Future City initiative was born as one of Japan's national strategic projects under the New Growth Strategy, which the Japanese government helmed in June 2010. The initiative aims to create cities that focus on human-centred values as well as resolve issues concerning the environment and aging societies.

Under the initiative, the Japanese government will seek information on leading practices on sustainable city development from the selected FutureCities.

Pipah Mohd Nasir, the General Manager for Business Development at Setia Haruman Sdn Bhd, Cyberjaya- which is master developer behind the city- will represent Cyberjaya. She will impart current and future initiatives from Cyberjaya as well as success stories and challenges that it faced to become one of the world's Green Cities.

"We are very honoured to be selected and as the city's ambassador. I will share with the audience on Cyberjaya's initiatives, success and challenges on Green Technology and its growth," added Pipah.

"By 2020, we aim to be Malaysia's ICT Hub and Green Intergrated City."

Launched in 1997, Cyberjaya launched the green technology agenda in 2010 in line with the Malaysia Green Technology Policy, highlighting the four pillars of energy, economy, environment and social.
